Live Broadcasts

Fast-Start streaming is a method of delivering a multimedia stream over the Internet so that it can start playing before it is fully downloaded. You can watch fast-start multimedia in a web browser using the appropriate plug-in. Fast-Start technology can be utilized on a standard web server. There are no special hardware requirements and the media can be accessed through a normal HTTP Internet connection. A great example of this technology is the Mavice-AFM Trailer Center which we recently deployed.

Real-Time streaming media is delivered in two ways: live broadcasts and Video-On-demand. With Video-On-Demand streaming, each customer starts the stream from the beginning, whether they are viewing a movie or a speech. They can watch the stream whenever they want from start to finish. Unlike Fast-Start, Video-On-Demand does require additional hardware in the form of a streaming server. Live broadcasts require both a streaming and a broadcast server. However, the live event is encoded by the broadcast server in real time and delivers the resulting stream to the server. The big difference with live broadcasts is that when customers connect to the stream, everyone sees the same point in the stream at the same time. It is also possible to "simulate" the live experience by broadcasting pre-recorded content.
